Support Your Immune System Botanically Part III
In our series conclusion of Support Your Immune System Botanically, we wrap up our tour of the benefits and backgrounds of the botanical ingredients in SHIELD Immune Supporting Hemp Extract, including clove, and reishi, and its three primary terpenes: linalool, nerolidol and geraniol.
Round the clock, the immune system scans and tracks the difference between your body’s own cells and foreign cells and tissues, and when needed clicks into action to fight and eliminate pathogen threats that are harmful to your body and overall health. For sick days and every day, SHIELD fortifies the immune system naturally—so it can work effectively to keep you active, resilient, and feeling your best. To learn more about how plants’ phytochemicals and nutrients aid immune health, check out Support Your Immune System Botanically Part I & Part II.
Clove
Indigenous to Asia and Africa, clove flower’s buds contain high amounts of antioxidants that aid the immune system in fighting off oxidative damage and free radicals. Clove supports respiratory health, is rich in flavonoids, helps expel mucus, and contains eugenol—known to increase immunity.
Licorice
The taste of licorice may come quickly to mind the moment you hear the name. But did you know licorice root contains a number of immune supportive benefits? Licorice has an affinity for protecting the respiratory system, helps to boost endurance and energy, soothes muscles in the bronchi, and contains many antiviral and antibacterial properties.
Reishi
A potent adaptogen known as the “king of herbs” in Chinese culture, Reishi has been used for centuries and studied extensively as a way to enhance immune function and increase white blood cell production, which helps fight infection and improve health imbalances.
Hemp-Derived Terpenes
Linalool: Found predominantly in lavender and cannabis, linalool is a natural relaxant with a very gentle aromatic scent. It has beneficial balancing properties that support respiratory health and helps to calm stress and tension.
Nerolidol: Carrying a woody and fruity scent reminiscent of tree bark, Nerolidol is found extensively in ginger, orange flower, jasmine and hemp. It holds anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, antifungal, antibacterial properties that all help the immune system. It’s also known for its light relaxant effect.
Geraniol: Geraniol is present in many sweet smelling plants and flowers, like roses, lemongrass, citronella, coriander and peaches. This primary terpene has been studied for its immunomodulatory effect, helping to modify an ideal immune response, and contains properties that limit physical distress.
